How did you get into flying trapeze?
I got into flying trapeze after trying it at Club Med in 1996. I then flew every couple of year or so when I went to Club Med until Gorilla Circus started up; I promptly joined as a customer and then transitioned to staff through bugging the Director relentlessly. When I’m on a trapeze, I feel a sense of belonging; this is where I should be and this is what I should be doing with my life. Gorilla Circus recently trained me up as a professional catcher, and I’ve performed in front of thousands at the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix catching tricks like Doubles and Uprise Forward Overs.
What tricks do you catch in a show? Which is your favourite?
In shows, I’m a catcher and I love to catch anything. When I’m flying, the tricks I love to throw are Doubles, Cutaway halves and Layouts.
What do you like best about teaching flying trapeze?
The feeling of flying and the people I meet.
What advice would you give to someone who’s on the fence about trying flying trapeze?
Tomorrow morning would it be better to be able to say I tried it or I didn’t try it.
What feedback do you give the most often to students?
Relax and just listen.
Tell us something wise that you learned from flying trapeze, or share a funny story.
It’s never too late to try something new and exciting.
